In response to the growing trend towards a healthier lifestyle and greater consumer awareness
of organic methods of cultivation, Agrumaria Corleone decided to study the availability of
organic fruit in Sicily in order to determine how best to meet the growing requirement for
organic grape and citrus products.
Having completed their study and effected the necessary modifications to their production processes, Agrumaria Corleone gained certification from Ecocert, an internationally recognized body for certification of organic production, and in 1999 launched a range of organic products. As a result of growing demand, Agrumaria Corleone subsequently expanded their range of organic products through the addition of NOP and Demeter certified juices and oils.
Sicily is now the largest producing region of organic fruit and vegetables in Italy and Agrumaria Corleone expects this sector to form an increasingly important element of its sales in the future.
